I felt in need of a great pilgrimage
so I sat still for three
days

and God came

How about three minutes...I feel the need to do so much....

3 minutes maybe, but 3 days? Yikes. I couldn't sit still. I think I will try to sit still for 3 minutes after I type this and send it on. I just want to see if I can listen to my own breathing and count out the 3 minutes in my mind. 1 2 3.....Take care and have a great day.

So opposite from the previous post!

I love this image and the words.
I was just telling Brian last night that I'll need an altar space in the new place. I'm going to do lots of mind/body/spirit work when I land in our new home.
And I'll need an art space too, of course.

Love you sister raven. How are you today?

I adore his writing! Beautiful and to the point. I'm so tired these days I think I could just sit for three days - honesly I think I could! Thank you hon, hoping you are well! Love ,Sarah

Wow! What a wonderful quote!
Oh I wish that would happen to me. I've tried 'sitting still and waiting for the voice of God' but I end up berating myself, like, "He isn't going to talk you YOU! This is a waste of time! He only talks to really important people!" LOL
guess I need to work on that :s
Hugs and prayers to you!

a beautiful post Renee... it's my birthday today and I've had a lovely afternoon listening to soft music and pottering about in my garden planting seeds before my family come over this evening.. I have had a reflective day and your post just added to that with those wonderful words..
thankyou Renee,
lots of love always..

Not familiar with Kabir. I shall ruminate.

Oh I think it would be very healing but unfortunately ... I personally can't do it for any length of time at all.

Sitting still is underrated by many but this could change people's minds! Love the photo you used to illustrate.

Great photo and words. I believe when we sit still and listen, God does speak to us :)

I have sat still for an hour and found it very therapeutic, three days? I don't think I could do that, but oh, the insights one might gain if they could.

Excellent quote and image Renee!

Kind of Buddhist. And the whole idea of a Quaker silent service is that you center down and find God within. I like that idea, that we contain what is sacred already within us.

Love the image and the words! Just amazing!

Why is it so hard to sit still? I can sit forever if I can draw, or sew, or write at the same time. But to sit still and do nothing...I'll have to work on that. :)

I don't believe in God but I do believe in 'keeping still' just once in a while some introspection is calming. It's great meditation. Three days? Perhaps not quite that long, who'd feed the dog?

Sometimes God takes his sweet ol' time.

Stunning image. Beautiful. Interesting how "God" is not written in reverse.

Not being a very religious person, I'm not sure I understand the need to fast or punish oneself in order to become closer to God. I guess I am missing something.

How are you today, beautiful?

A ha .... Renee... So Wednesday is Whacky~LOL! You wrote that so well I couldn't tell... : )

A pilgrimage... I think I could do that... if I didn't have to worry about anything. Cleaning house, fixing food, thinking of what to fix, bills, clay, gardening, chickens, errands, cat, calling people, making sure the whole damn thing doesn't fall apart... Yes I think I could do that... Now God? Would I find God, that I'm not sure of BUT I might find myself!

You are more than just a friend~

yes, yes, yes,- this is true- we don't have to look, just stand still long enough to feel xx

'god dwells within you as you'

that's what i thought of reading this. if i could sit still for three days, i would break my existing record of 2o minutes. ha!

renee, do you know the book 'eat pray love'? she (eliz gilbert) finds god in this way, and writes about it in the most interesting way (that's the pray part: she also eats her way through italy and loves her way through bali)

i hope you are okay today?

What a stunning image! That's one heck of a long time to sit still for - even if you are waiting for God! Hope you're feeling well today, Renee.x

One needs to purge themselves of all human and carnal desires in order to reach a state of divine intervention in meditation. That is why you read about Buddha, the Hindu vedics, the Catholic saints who see apparitions after days of fasting and solitude.

To us mere mortals that would be the equivalent of a convulsive seizyre or coma from food and sleep deprivation which also makes us have auditory and visual hallucinations.

Remember that Gindu boy who meditated for over 30 days? That is beyond any western citizen's realm. They can't even exist without their cellphones for a minute or their computers for a day!

Ces Adorio said...

...and another thing, being religious is totally different from being spiritual.

haha I wouldn't even last three minutes, the only way I cope sitting still at the computer is to have three different pages open and music playing v. loud... mayve I'm not meant to be a pilgrim :P

Also, that eye picture is AMAZING!
