Wednesday's Women No. 26

Esme Echo was the most beautiful girl in her town. She was also the most feared.

The fact that Esme’s eyes were two different colours was not the reason she was feared. The two different coloured eyes just added to Esme’s beauty. The reason she was feared had nothing to do with her eyes.

Esme was feared because of her ears. You see Esme was able to hear when a lie was spoken. She heard the words and could not help but call out the lie. She didn’t want to do this; it was her genetic makeup.

An example of Esme’s behaviour and why she was feared could go like this.

A woman speaking to her husband might say ‘I will never leave you.’ And Esme overhearing would yell ‘LIE.’ So of course right away the husband would know the truth as Esme was never wrong.

Stunning picture - love the eyes of coarse! Funny how gifts can be curses. In one time of history she would hve been placed on a pedistal, but now she is banished as odd. Wonderful story hon!

Thinking about this writing, i recall a saying which goes somewhat like this - Truth, truth is nobody's daughter.
What happens to girls like Esme? They are eventually shunned and isolated.

A gift and a hindrance for beautiful Esme. I would not worry about it, since I never want anything or anyone near me that wants to go. It's the Sagittarius in me. ;)

Incredible story, Renee. How scary would it be to actually meet someone like that. Don't we all lie sometimes?

I like Esme.

That is a great story and a very beautiful painting. The truth/Esme is so lovely.

Have a wonderful wednesday Renee ♥ hugs! But I won't send you any warm ocean breezes today, the air is filled with smoke from a wildfire!

I love this story! Did you come up with it, or is this a re-telling?!

This is a bit weird, my dear. You want to scare us? Frankly, if she overheard a woman speak like that to her husband, she had a fool for a husband. Knowing she was around, why would he have such a conversation?

My friend, Paul, has an image on his photography website (Paul Dudley Photography) of a person whose eyes look like this lovely picture. His link is in my sidebar, if you want to see it Have a lovely day.

Hi Renee,
Scary yet beautiful Esme. I read your post yesterday but it was too late at night to formulate a comment! Your friend is so right about the way we divide the world into other worlds and it is terrible but I had never quite thought of it in that way before.I had thought about the term compassion fatigue and how it is quite a good get out for guilty feeling westerners. I am going to visit him now and have a read. Thanks for sharing yesterday.

Kathy Hare's artwork is wonderful! The different eye colours are intriquing
and of course, without knowing the story of Esme's magical hearing, one would assume that it must be her eyes that cause
the reaction amongst people. Another case of not judging on first appearances alone?

As to the blue and brown eyes, one of my fave singers is David Bowie - who also has eyes of two different colours. Perhaps this is a sign of a gifted person? *smiles*

A good dinner party conversation starter is "What Super power would you like to have?" Reading minds would definitely have its pros and cons. I think I would like the ability to never sleep (like the vampire in Twilight) - just think how much I could get done! Hope you are having a great week Renee!

Very nice painting. Did her ears grow when she heard the lie? :)
just stopped by to say hello and howdy do. Hope all is well, me fine. Have a great Thursday.

I'd love that - I need that ability.

(I've known three people with this eye combo.)

Total truth is something to be afraid of. I think I'd have to stop up my ears.

Oh, I remember seeing this piece by Kathy. Beautiful! Kathy is incredible, isn't she? She can create the most powerful image from the softest pencil strokes. Amazing.

Renee, I bet you were the world's best bedtime storyteller! I bet your kids begged you to tell them stories all the time. I love how you come up with these -- so wonderful and original!

Karin Bartimole said...

my sister in law has different colored eyes, but I don't think she has special hearing :)
what i wonder is, can Esme herself lie?!?! or does she call herself out on it, saying, for instance, "my eyes are the same color","LIE!"?!?

kj said...

the brown eye kind of scares me, renee. and i agree with kathy abit: if she has no control over blurting out the truth, that is a hard place to be.

but not always. for example:

RENEE! YOU'RE AWESOME!

Wow this is powerful...
I am amazed that you can come up with these musings... I think I know this woman Esme... She might live close to me, maybe inside of me or on my shoulder... different colored eyes looking at different lies or ....truths...

I always look forward to the next day when I can read another one of your blog postings~

Good-night my friend~

Yes, the truth can be scary; and sometimes being the 'teller' of the truth can be even scarier.
The girl is actually very pretty. Like that actress whose eyes are also different colors....I can't remember her name--she was in that Medicine Woman tv series. Ah! Jane Seymour!

What a wonderful tale - inspired by a equally beautiful painting! Would that we all had ears to hear the truth and the ability to acknowledge it....

I love this sweet face. I'm a big fan of kathy's work too!

I love the story as I have NO tolerence for lies. None.
The truth will set you free in my opinion.
I will say though, that telling someone the truth in some cases can be very hurtful.

And you are a good story teller ;)

Renee, love. Ces forwarded it to me just a short while ago. I hate feeling powerless, and I hate what you are going through. I'm relieved that things are improving bit by bit, though. I wish I had a healing hand. Damn the Beatles for saying love is all you need. Sometimes you need more. Bless Nathan.

After reading your email, Ces and I (independently and unbeknownst to each other) both turned to comfort food -- she had buttered rolls, I had a chunk of chocolate.

Breathe, heal, rest. Know that we are wrapping you with all our warmth.

That is an unusual story Renee. How intriguing. It would be a useful gift sometimes, although embarrassing. No wonder she is feared. Beautiful picture. Can you imagine if she was in a room full of politicians!!

Esme has the same eyes as David Bowie. My Brother almost did too, he got hit right in the eyeball with a tennis ball years ago and the iris completely disappeared. Luckily his got better, but it looked v. strange and rather awesome for a while there.
