On The 12th Day
On the twelfth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
twelve drummers drumming,
eleven pipers piping,
ten lords a-leaping,
nine ladies dancing,
eight maids a-milking,
seven swans a-swimming,
six geese a-laying,
five golden rings,
four calling birds,
three French hens,
two turtle doves
and a partridge in a pear tree…
The twelve drummers drumming are the twelve points of doctrine in the Apostles’ Creed. Belief in God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, that Jesus Christ was born of the Virgin Mary, made man, crucified, died, and arose on the third day, that he sits at the right hand of the father, will come again, the resurrection of the dead, and life everlasting.

Wow! We were wondering last evening what "12th day" might stand for, That's a surprise. Thanks again for the fun activity.
Take care, Barb
i absolutely enjoyed the twelve
days of christmas.
is it just me?
this seems like something we should know already ... yet i am totally blown away atthe realization that i knew nothing about the meaning of the verses in a song so dear to me.
i am not enlightened with what seems like a pretty powerful secret.
thank you
once again i am wishing i was as knowledgeable as you always are.
together strong

Hi Renee, sorry I hav'nt written to you about going to the post office. Your parcel was not there and was waiting again to see if would arrive. I better go and have once last try at the post office tomorrow.
So sorry, if it may be lost? I feel awful. I hope somehow if it has go lost it will find its way back to you. Still keep our hopes up!
Amazing - someone should do a rendition depicting the real meaning using a video or religious picture. I am sure we (your blog followers) are not the only people with no clue the song had any other significance... Thanks
Thank you so much for the journey through the history of the twelve days of Christmas! I have been enjoying the series.

Just stopped by to say hi Renee, hope all is okay. Have a great week.
That is one of my favorite Christmas songs. When I was in elementary school, we did a choir program, and we had to memorize the words. I love it!
Hope all is well with you Renee. I so enjoy the artwork you share with us your readers. So very whimsical.
Thanks for the welcome back! So good to hear from you, also! : )
Wishing you a wonderful 2009!
Hugs,
La Donna
