Tagged

I will wait here; you go grab a cup of tea and settle in to answer some questions.

I was tagged by my darling friend Heidi and now I am tagging you.  Knowing people a little better is what we are all here for.

These questions are for your entire life.  If you have done any of them state them on the comment part of my blog.  If you can, expand on your answers just because it is more fun that way.

Gone on a blind date = no, but one time when I was 16 a neighbour guy who was about 22 came to the door all dressed up in a suit and had flowers in his hands.  He asked me to go out to the movies and tried to give me the flowers he was holding.  I said no, but that I would set him up with my sister Suzie who was more his age, so I called Suzie to the door and she went out with him.

Skipped school = yes, more than once.  Ms. Heidi, I believe I skipped with you.

Watched someone die = yes I have seen my friends Jill and Angie while they were dying and it was both horrible and an honour.  I also saw my Nana in a coma after a house fire where I believe she tried to save her dog.  And every Tuesday I get to see brave women who are living while they are in different stages of dying.  Seeing my dear friend Darlene dying was also especially hard.  I did not find any peace from any of my dear ones dying.

Been to Canada = I live in Canada but as a teenager I was lucky enough to travel all across Canada.  I have not been to Newfoundland and I have never been in the Territories.

Been to Mexico = yes, but I have only been in a border town.  Tijuana?  I am a shallow tourist because I don’t want to see the poverty in front of me.  I guess I would be called an ostrich tourist.

Been to Florida = yes on my honeymoon.  A little story.  This is the time before credit cards being common and we didn’t have much money.  It was a honeymoon on a budget.  I remember being at the airport and wanting to spend our last $100 and Wahid wanting to save it in case we got bumped somewhere (by the way, we did).  I remember being so pissed off and thinking why did I marry such a cheap bastard.  My prince charming had sprung a leak.

Been on a plane = yes too many to count.  I worked for Air Canada at one point and we traveled by plane for free.  I use to love it until one time flying from Trinidad to Tobago the plane dropped and we were lifted about 10 inches off of our seats.  It still surprises me to this day though that I sat with Angelique and Nadalene (Nathan wasn’t born yet) and said “Wow, wasn’t that fun.  I sure hope they do that again.”  Now just before I fly I take a fear of flying course on the internet that Shelly hooked me up to.

Been lost = yes.  The first time I remember being lost I was 9 years old and we had moved to Windsor Park.  I was walking home from Frontenac School at lunch and instead of turning onto Elizabeth Road I kept walking down DuBourmont to Dugas.  I then stopped at a house and knocked on the door.  An older lady got her neighbour’s son to walk me back to school, when I got to Elizabeth, I remembered it was my street and he walked me home.  I have also been left behind by my parents a couple of times when I was a small child but that was not the question, so I will zip those stories back in my lips for now.

Gone to Washington, D.C. = yes.

Swam in the ocean = yes, the Pacific and the Atlantic.

Cried yourself to sleep = yes, I have actually become a pro at that.

Played cops and robbers = yes, only we called it cowboys and Indians.

Recently coloured with crayons = no, although Angelique and I almost bought a giant colouring book at Costco.

Sang Karaoke = no, unless you consider Karaoke singing in Wahid’s ear while we are waltzing.  We both sing completely out of tune.  But being out-of-tune together has a melody all its own.

Paid for a meal with coins only = absolutely, and those coins had a lot of pennies with them.  I mean they are legal tender aren’t they?

Done something you told yourself you wouldn’t = yes, yes, and yes.

Made prank phone calls = yes and I believe these were done when I was in the presence of Heidi and Shirley.  I still remember ‘Hello is your fridge running?  Well you better go catch it.'
And the scariest mother of them all 'I know who you are and
I saw what you did.'

Laughed until some kind of beverage came out of your nose = yes, and sometimes those are the best kind of laughs because they are so unexpected.

Caught a snowflake on your tongue = yes, hasn’t everyone who has the opportunity to live in a cold country?

Danced in the rain = no, but I am compiling a list of 52 things to do before I am 53 and that seems like a good thing to do.

Written a letter to Santa Claus = yes.  I was also Santa Claus’s secretary for many years so I even wrote letters on his behalf.

Been kissed under the mistletoe = yes, but not under real mistletoe.  But I have been kissed under fake mistletoe.

Watched the sunrise or moonrise with someone you care about = yes to both.

Blown bubbles = yes, and I still do whenever I get gum in my mouth.

Gone ice-skating = yes, all the time as a kid.  Most of the time at Maginot.

Been skinny-dipping outdoors = no.

Gone to the movies = of course.  I even went to see the first Lord of the Rings movie alone at St. Vital Centre.  Actually I would recommend it to anyone, it was really empowering.

Thanks for the fun Heidi.  Ciao.

How fun will this be?

Gone on a blind date = yes, and have been married to him for 25 years.

Skipped school = tons – almost cost me graduating with my friends

Been to Canada = this land is our land; this land is your land …

Been to Mexico = yes, I remember walking across the border and buying mom some sort of blown glass thing that I think she still has, but somehow she (the cat’s mother) thinks Joey bought it for her. I was really young then, I don’t even know how old, but the poverty is something I can still picture vividly – also, if I was as young as I think and in Mexico of all places, why did my parents just let me wander around by myself?

Been to Florida = yes on our one and only “big” holiday – I really wish we could have taken the kids more places like our mom and dad – how the heck did they do it?

Been on a plane = yes lots, but the funniest was with Debbie when we went to go see Natalie in Europe because we are both terrified to fly

Been lost = yes, in more ways than just physically.

Gone to Washington, D.C. = yes because Dad has always made our trips not only fun, but educational.

Swam in the ocean = yes, the Pacific and the Atlantic.

Cried yourself to sleep = yes.

Played cops and robbers = yes, would never play one of the bad guys.

Recently coloured with crayons = yes, with Jordyn and Madison – big craft and colouring fanatics.

Sang Karaoke = once – one to many times

Done something you told yourself you wouldn’t = yes, famous last words “I would never…”.

Made prank phone calls = yes “Is Mrs. Wall there?”

Written a letter to Santa Claus = Not that I can remember, at least not on my own behalf – who needs Santa when you have eight big sisters?

Been kissed under the mistletoe = yes, makes for a great photo op.

Blown bubbles = yes, singles and double bubbles – never got the whole gum cracking thing though – is that something people actually do on purpose or is because their bite is out?

Gone ice-skating = yes, and one of my biggest regrets is that I have not kept it up - as the saying goes “if you don’t use it you loose it” boy have I lost it – I tried two years ago and was like it was my first time and my ankles were killing me – I lasted 3 minutes and I am not joking I timed myself - Gotta love that Maginot family pass!

I'm on board, only no tea at the office, well I could boil the pot, but no, I'll just try to do my best and answer honestly:

Blind Date: No

Skipped school: Absolutely, grade three, was in a bush until Renee picked me up to take me home. Yes even a few more times. I remember skipping with Tracy and I really didn't want to, but she convinced me to do it in Grade 7, That was when the vice-principal Mr. Chapeau (can't remember the spelling) said to me I could see you doing it Ste. Marie, but I can't imagine that Tracy would... (Yeh the good old days)

Yes: I was in Nana's room when she died. I wasn't there when Norma died but I was on the phone with her nurse

Been to Canada = I live in Canada but as a teenager I was lucky enough to travel all across Canada. I have not been to Newfoundland and I have never been in the Territories (copied from Renee, of course I did what she did when we travelled, even got caught up with the french boys from PQ, Banff, remember)

Mexico: yes, the same two border towns though, I have learnt as an adult though, that those people count on people to go there to shop. Even had a pedicure there and it was great. Can you imagine going and having your toes done in a place that dates back to the look of the 50 and actually going into Al's Diner from Happy Days. The place is called Gloria's

Been to Florida: no

Been on a plane = yes a few

Been lost = yes. Coming home in a storm one day after work, it was really spooky, Don't even know how I got back to the highway

Gone to Washington, D.C. = Don't know

Swam in the ocean = yes, the Pacific and the Atlantic.

Cried yourself to sleep = yes, I have actually become a pro at that. "Ditto"

Played cops and robbers = yes, only we called it cowboys and Indians. "COPY CAT"

Recently coloured with crayons = Yes with Hannah, LOVE it

Paid for a meal with coins only = yes

Done something you told yourself you wouldn’t = Oh but of course, it is me, I can't even trust myself to listen to me...

Made prank phone calls = yes and I believe these were done when I was in the presence of Heidi and Shirley. I still remember ‘Hello is your fridge running? Well you better go catch it.'
And the scariest mother of them all 'I know who you are and
I saw what you did.' Alright, just peed myself, I think you guys put me up to this one, see above....

Laughed until some kind of beverage came out of your nose = Okay, so... that hurts

Watched the sunrise or moonrise with someone you care about = yes to both.

Blown bubbles = yes, I did the biggest ever

Gone ice-skating = yes, all the time as a kid. Most of the time at Maginot and do you remember the time that guy spit in front of us, and I of course had to call him a pig, then he went to hit me and I had him down on the ground in like two seconds.

Gone on a blind date = yes (nad's friend susan set me up). we only went out once - no attraction/compatability.

Skipped school = I think in junior high, maybe a couple times. i was a fake badass/a true goody goody because i always felt so guilty and was chicken to get caught. i actually remember once skipping japanese class in grade 12 in high school, and my teacher saw me hanging out with friends in the student counsel room and asked where i had been. she looked really disapointed. i felt so bad.

Watched someone die = i've never watched someone die, but i remember my grandpa stepien staying at our house on foxdale after he had a heart attack. he looked so weak. i remember at one point he fell down the stairs and i was downstars watching tv. all the sudden, i just saw a body rolling. it was scary. i've also experienced the loss of someone dying (grandpa, jeff)

Been to Canada = i've been to b.c., alberta, mb, ontario, quebec (lived in quebec city for 3 months and recently got engaged there!), new brunswick (one summer, i got some quebec exchange students to go on a road trip with me to new brunswick - we went to edmonstun, the closes town to the quebec boarder - for me it counts - my feet have touched the soil), nova scotia (went to a conference there with university). I would love to travel the east coast more or would love to take the train through Yukon.

Been to Mexico = never, the furthest south i've been is florida

Been to Florida = we went on a really nice trip with my family the summer before grade 11. i loved it. i love my dad, because though we never went on lots of big trips, whenever we did, we could have whatever we wanted. i also got fancy slushy drinks. i remember this employee at the disney hotel who was dressed as a bellman and would always greet the guests by bowing and tipping his hat "To the lady, to the gentleman, to the lady..."

Been on a plane = yes. my first time was in grade 9. i travelled to new york on a buddy pass with my best friend at the time lia and her mom. i was so excited, but we did not all sit together because of flying on standby. i was thus by myself and next to strangers. i was really excited though, and i think talked the person's ear off the whole way. now i don't do that (not as friendly? like to relax). My first long flight was to France (by myself), and i was fine. Now I get scared when i fly and hate turbulence.

Been lost = yes. when travelling, it's kind of fun to get lost, but not too lost. i remember always being scared when lost. another memory with lia and her mom again: being at sears, and lia and i were walking through the clothing section and so was her mom, but we got separated from her. i remember being scared and calling for her, though in reality she was still in the same section. funny how department store sections seem so big when you're little.

Gone to Washington, D.C. = no, though kids at my school this year are going to the Holocaust Museum there this year. it's supposed to be amazing. re: politics - go obama!

Swam in the ocean = the english channel (part of atlantic ocean I think) and the golf of mexico in Florida (don't know if i've actually swam in the ocean)

Cried yourself to sleep = yes.

Played cops and robbers = probably, i was more a play grown-up. Whenever I played with nad, i always had to be the dad or boyfriend.

Recently coloured with crayons = don't think so. i always remember loving playing with those pastel crayons that draw really nice on black construction paper. i never had a set myself, but i remember always wanting one.

Sang Karaoke = i have, but only in groups, and off to the side. there's this cool korean karaoke place on osborne where you can rent private room for 20& an hour with your friends or even yourself. i went with my friend erin and her friends. she loves to sing. i love to sing to, but don't have the best voice at all, and am to shy/chicken. my mom used to say i sounded like mariah carey (ha ha ha - yeah right!!!)

Paid for a meal with coins only = i think so.

Done something you told yourself you wouldn’t = yes, haven't we all made mistakes?

Made prank phone calls = yes, with my friend Deanna especially. she was nuts.

Laughed until some kind of beverage came out of your nose = i think so, but i don't like it. i prefer the crying, belly hurts kind of laugh.

Caught a snowflake on your tongue = yes. one of my favourite snow time memories is of a man that used to wait at the same transit stop as me on sun valley. every day during the winter time, he would kick the little snow hill. once he's get a piece off, he would stomp on it until it was nothing, and then he'd start over until the bus came. i liked this because i don't think he realized he was doing it, and he was dressed in his business clothes, with a briefcase, off to work, and yet he looked so childish, but in a really beautiful way. i love that memory.

Danced in the rain = i don't think so, but it sounds very romantic (maybe more romantic than it actually would be?)

Written a letter to Santa Claus = yes. i think in elementary school, we wrote in french and got responses in french

Been kissed under the mistletoe = yes

Watched the sunrise or moonrise with someone you care about = no

Blown bubbles = yes

Gone ice-skating = yes, took lessons as a kid. i wish i was better. i wish i could stop better. to this day, i think that i would still like it better for someone to tighten my skates for me.

Been skinny-dipping outdoors = no.

Gone to the movies = love the movies. my first movie theatre movie was snow white.

this was fun. i love reading everyone else's.

When I used to recieve these I thought how silly... no i read other people's (people close to me at heart) and think... HOW GREAT!

Gone on a blind date = no. but i discovered going on a date with your brother's friend(s) is just as risky!!

Skipped school = Mom, (like Ben's a religious Reader)I really do/did appreciate Private School, but yes I also did appreacite a good skip every now and then! (Sometimes even I'd skip class to hang out and read the Paper at Brazier Store w/my Mom and Grandpa.. who woulda thought?!)

Watched someone die = In a round about way. While volunteering at the Children's Hospital-CK5 ward, a few of my Favorites passed on inbetween visits - never easy. Although, a very fond life lesson was learned from my 4 or 5 year old pal... after playing hide and seek in his 20sq foot lockdown room(funny - he had an IV pole 'i could never really find him...winkwink') we read the book Thomas' Snowsuit and in the story Thomas doesn't like his Snowsuit and gets grumpy because he has to put it on... L' goes "i don't know why he's so grumpy, it's only a snowsuit." (what he wouldn't give to wear his snowsuit and leave that room... it gives perspective.

Been to Canada = Been and worked for the Hudsons Bay Company! (hahaha!) I'm a Proud Citizen - worn the flag around the world with me. I would love to travel the East Coast, which I am yet to visit. As well and go polar bear watching in my home provience.

Been to Mexico = yes, and remember going to a dinner theater where I was pulled on stage for a band to saranade a group of women. (Dane reluctantly came up to the stage to take photos or 'support me'... come to think of it he did the same in Hawaii as well.) Also, Gordie Called from Home asking my Mom for a Cheese grader - the phone call cost $45.

Been to Florida = Oh Yes, my hands and feet are filled - Too Many Times To Count. On Family Holidays as well as on a Romantic Get-Away. Disney is still Magical. I have 3 favorite memories:
1. As a child, I made my dad leave his favorite Ride of "Back to the Future" because I was too scared. He took me to the boat show and bought me a lollipop the side of my face; the boys didn't get one!
2. ET also said my name on another ride - I'll never forget that!
3. McDonalds play area until we fell asleep at the table. (as I sit here the memories flood in, those are my favorites.)

Been on a plane = Tons! I wish I could live in a Plane! When Flying Back from Australia with my mom our Plane also dropped a good 10 feet! (people screaming... and under my breath I secretly thank God b/c I love turbulance.)

Been lost = yes. After being found I usually discover I liked the journey.
1. On a trip to Banff on Spring Break w/'the boys of my family' I got lost and took my dad's advice to follow the chairlifts if i ever get lost... well this chairlift took me to the opposite side of the mountain from the boys... i remember screaming "Dad - Dad" and people looking down at me w/ terrified expressions.
2. In Europe my best friend Chelsea and I almost missed our Tour Bus b/c we got lost in the Catacombes a uniquely terrifying but beautiful place(a underground cave of bones and skulls).. we ran all the way to the tube and found the bus still waiting for us at La Louvre. relief and satisfaction.
3. Denver, daily.

Gone to Washington, D.C. = not sure? mom??

Swam in the ocean = Yes! I love the Ocean and all it offers!

Cried yourself to sleep = yes.

Played cops and robbers = yes,
for years; around the neighbourhood with my street Neighbour Matt. It is a strong part of the glue to our 17 year friendship.

Recently coloured with crayons = no, unfortunately i don't like the feel of the paper on my fingers. perhaps i should give it another try..

Sang Karaoke = yes, our hockey team would go to a Karaoke bar every Wednesday after our 10pm practice. We'd arrive late, drink a few cocktails and go to town... I AM AWFUL!

Paid for a meal with coins only = yes.

Done something you told yourself you wouldn’t = yes.

Made prank phone calls = yes, hahaha.

Laughed until some kind of beverage came out of your nose = yes, and i agree with you Aunty Renee, those can be the best!

Caught a snowflake on your tongue = yes, and I still find myself doing it.

Danced in the rain = yes, and one day when it's raining I'll show up at your Door and Pull You to join me!

Written a letter to Santa Claus = Yes. And maybe if i write one this year i'll get the PIG i've always wanted, especially if you dear ones are responding.

Been kissed under the mistletoe = yes, but not like in the movies where it looks like magic.

Watched the sunrise or moonrise with someone you care about = hahaha, in Venice I watched one w/a boy, the night was magical, the memory just as well.

Blown bubbles = yes

Gone ice-skating = yes. I have a choice of Shoes or Hockey Skates... I love when I choose the Skates.
(Maginot was the home to many Hockey Practices for me)

Been skinny-dipping outdoors = yes, at a hockey wind-up party in Lake of the Woods. A little boy on the dock over yelled "nice bum where ya from?" I was mortified.

Gone to the movies = Yes, Yes, Yes The "show" or "theAAtre" as my mom calls it. A fond Childhood Memory was with you Aunty Renee taking me to the movie "STRIKE"... in the movie the girl retorts to another girl "Up Your Ziggy with a Wa-Wa Brush!" ...Aunty Renee laughed her head off, I never forgot the line, and learned a year later what a Ziggy was...hahahah Makes me Laugh thinking about it! (thank you for your humor and love.)

I loved hearing other peoples responses. xoxo thanks Aunty Renee
