September = 09

Will you be attending college/school? Absolutely not! When I went to school we did not have kindergarten but started with Grade 1. I went to a school in Kirkfield Park but I don’t remember the name of it for Grade 1 and Grade 4. I then went to St. Mary’s Catholic School for Grade 2 and Grade 3. In Grade 5, I went to Frontenac and for Grade 6, I went to Howden. For Grade 7 and 8, I went to Beliveau and for Grade 9, I went to Pierre Radisson. Grade 10 to 12, I went to Windsor Park Collegiate.

Do you like fall better than summer? Yes, fall is my favourite season of the year. I love the cool air and the warm colours. I love the promise of Christmas just around the next corner.

Did you have any great teachers? No, and as a matter of fact I remember one horrible teacher. She taught me Grade 4 and she was mean. One of the reasons she may not have liked us was because there were so many and we were as poor as church mice. Of course I will never know the real reason she didn’t like me but I do know that she was an adult and I was only nine years old. I actually remember her convincing other girls not to play with me and not invite me to their birthdays. Another time she tangled with the wrong woman – my mother. She phoned my mother and said that I was a slow learner and wanted to put me in a different class. Well there were fireworks going off over that one. Before her class I had always been at the top of my class.

Kindergarten was before my time in Manitoba too. You had to pay to attend and since we couldn't afford it, I didn't go. In our one horse prairie town, kindergarten was in the basement of the United Church and was really just what we would now call daycare. There wasn't any actual education involved! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Ahhh, I see you went to catholic school as well! Tell you sister Mickie that she definitely does not own all the catholic guilt. :) My family owns a large portion as does Daniel's family!! Your mother sounds wonderful - hope she's doing better! Love, Silke

That teacher was a jerk! She must be one of those that chose education as a career NOT because of a love for children, but the love of summers off.grrrrrrrr
Well poo on her, you turned out absolutely fabulous!! She's a fool!

A good teacher (or a bad one) can make all the difference in a child's life (& in whether or not he learns). I'm so glad that your mom stood up for you, and taught that teacher something important!
It's amazing, how many times you changed schools...that must have taken a lot of adjusting. You are a very resilient and intelligent woman. XO

What a horrid person that teacher was. Sadly, I had a few of those myself. I cannot imagine crushing the spirit of an already quiet child. Bad memories. I am going to go hug the children on my street now. I love you, Renee, with all my heart. Deb

Thanks for being honest. I am so, so sorry that all of this is happening to you and your loved ones. You all must hate the smell of hospitals by now.

You are in my heart.

Love and hugs and kisses.

Lord have mercy, there must be something about the fourth grade that drives teachers insane. Mine used to chase me around the room...I did pretty good out running her for a fat kid, but of course she would always catch me...oh the pain..and never leave a mark.

I've come across many folks that had bad experience in grade four...nothing like yours of telling the other children not to play with you...how horrible.

I attend the University of Life every single day with every single breath I take.

I like Fall as well as Summer because of the cooler weather and the earth-tone colors and feelings of wistfulness. I can't like Summer less because it has my flowers and dragonflies!

Renee is one of my greatest teachers of all time. The days themselves prove to be the wisest teachers of all....Love, Hugs and Blessings, dear teacher and friend of my heart...

That teacher needed to be struck off, what an awful experience!

I went to Rhosddu Infants from years 1-2 then Rhosddu Juniors from 4-6, Ysgol Dewi Sant years 7-10, NEWI thereafter.

Memorable teachers? Rev J R Jenkins taught us Religeous Education and he was a scream, really brought the subject to life for us xxxx

Oh, I had one of those mean teachers. ONly one too. It was in second grade, and she had a beard and a moustache! Mean looking! But she was mean to the whole class...I think she was just too old to be in a classroom teaching. But I was terrified of her. Good thing we moved at the end of that first semester. Sad how deep an impression they make on us isn't it?

Renee, this teacher must be such an awful person to dislike a child this age. There's always one. I don't know why they teach if they are not up to liking their pupils.
My sister had a teacher who picked on her that much, Didi was in hospital several weeks thinking it was an apedix until it all came out about this teacher. The teacher got the sack.
So sorry you never had a teacher stand out to be a good one. This would of been some happier memories.
You certainly are not stupid, I would go to say yoou are one of the most intelligent person of the world.
Your stamina and personality shines so much and probably this teacher feared your intelligence, even at this age!
A BIG HUG FOR A BRILLIANT LADY!

Oh no! A bad memory indeed. Bad teachers are unforgivable.

What goes around comes around, I thihk. What compels people who choose teaching as a profession to be mean to children? I can't fathom it. Once I watched my daughter's teacher be infinitely, unendingly kind to a student all the other teachers wanted to kick out of school. Her kindness changed his life. Literally. She's the principal now, many years later and happily so. Oh, the power of a kind word...

It is so terrible that a person is put into a teaching situation for kids of a young age who can have such a major influence on their lives. Most are meant to mentor and bring out the best in a student..not tear them down. I'm so glad your mom stood up for you!!

Renee- next time you see your Mom give her a big hug and a kiss from me. I like a Ma who gets in there and defends her kids! :) I don't think my kindergarten teacher liked me, because one day she came to school, and I knew something was different about her. I stared and stared and I finally figured it out - so I blurted out "You hair is a different color today!" She sent me home with a note pinned to my sweater that said, "Please tell Pamela to think before she speaks." LOL!!
Love to you my friend - xoxo Pam

Hey Renee,

yup.... I also attended Catholic schools and had a few rotten teachers...lol

Growing up we all said Grade 1 and 2 and so on. Here in the States they say fifth grade not grade 5. I've never gotten used to it! I'm still a Canadian....yay!

hugs to you my dear friend!!

Whooo hooo my kinda MAMA!! I love her!! Wow it just never fails to amaze me what some freaking horrid teachers do!! They should be horse whipped (I would never whip a horse..but seemed appropriate). They make me sooooo angry. Here is a hug for little you hon!

Horrible teacher . . You went to nearly as many schools as me! I'd been to 9 schools by the time I reached year 9 in high school! No wonder I'm such a homebody now. I can't remember any cruel teachers but then I can't remember any stand-outs either. I wonder sometimes if meglamaniac teachers realise the damage they do when they pick on a certain student. Perhaps there's something good to be said about today's PC classrooms. Have a good weekend Renee, come down where the sun is shining and the breeze is warm and gett a little sun on your face!

I had a couple of teachers like that.
I did not have a mom in my corner. You are so fortunate to have a mom in your corner.

Miss you

I was about the same age as you when my terrible teacher came into my life. We had a "combination class" of two differents grades and it was difficult to do anything buy daydream during school hours. That is what I did and this teacher was quite hateful. I can still, after all these years, see the look of scorn in her eyes. It's hard for me to imagine how any adult could treat a child like that but...my mother also came to school and had a little talk. Still I always felt intimidated by this very "big" teacher.

Hurray for your mom!

You've brought back memories. I had such a horrible third grade teacher she affects my self-esteem to this day.
I need to stop giving her the power to do that.
Why do the ones who want to destroy children choose that profession to begin with?

Sending you love. I think you turned out fabulous!

Your Mum is a star. How dare that stupid teacher behave in that hideous way? It beggars belief.

I love fall too, and I think it's because Christmas is coming. I love the decorations and the lights everywhere and the childrens' faces.
