Yes, all glory to our Vets. If it weren't for those brave men and women, we would not enjoy the freedom and privileges we have.

Thank you.

Thanks to your father and all the other veterans who did their bit for the war effort - you must be so proud of your Dad, Renee!!

We celebrate Remeberance Day here too - both my grandfathers were Veterans of WWII.

renee, to our fathers and to our veterans...

last weekend while cleaning my parents' house i found my fathers WWII memories. they were stored in small box, a japanese flag with his ports and named typed on it, a two inch wooden block with a simple number on it, his air flights and itinerary.

he was so proud of his service. we heard about it regularly at the dinner table. i think he learned to belong somewhere during that time in his life.

now you and i already know our fathers have met one another and are having a good time up there. i knew as soon as i saw your father's face a while back that he was family.

and renee, today i bestowed myself with a special honor. as far as i know i have never signed up as one of your followers. so today i did: number 400. number 400. that would be ME.

i love you dearly, truly, and even over the top on occasion,

kj

What a doll your dad was!
My dad was in the RCN during WW2. I have his medals as well.
Bless them all for their courage and honor.

I had to giggle about the penis reference! (You didn't think that would get by me, did you?)
No wonder they had so many children ;)

love you Raven sister,

Oh Lovee, I just read the link and all of the family comments. Simply beautiful. See, in the end, only the Love remains. I Adore your Daddy...I have ever since reading about him leaving you and your cousins in that parking lot with the Hell's Angels! And he comes back all happy about the lovely little evening he just had with perfect strangers! What a HOOT. Now the penis story on top of that! Quite literally the cherry on top! HA! Oh...visual...make it stop! I love you, Renee. ♥ Deb

What a lovely remembrance of your Dad, Renee! You are a writer with a gift. I totally laughed at the 'losing weight' part, and loved the part about how he met the love of his life in Scotland. A wee Scottish lassie! I can see where you get your wicked sense of humor, LOL!

Renee, sending prayers your way, I know it will be a sad day for you missing your Dad.

Okay, that cinches it. I have a hole in my head. I knew that, Renee. I wasn't thinking, and I was in a big rush to get out the door. I'm so sorry! Your knuckle-headed friend, Pam

What a lovely interview with your dad! You must be very proud of him. I'm wondering if you have his smile?

Rebecca Ramsey said...

I love that post. I hope you have warm thoughts of him today.

My grandfather was killed in WWII. It happened on my mother's first birthday, which I always thought was so sad. But then, many years later, my mom's first grandson was born on the very same day. Death and birth...it all goes round and round.

I love your father, Renee. What a wonderful and courageous, handsome and funny, funny man! I can see where you all get your sense of humor. That he married your mother after only seeing her three times makes me swoon. Reminds me of that romantic movie For the Moment about airmen training in Manitoba before WWII. It is an honor to read more about him. He will never be forgotten.

As an aside, whenever I walk, I've been noticing that my right hand often makes a fist, with my fingers enveloping my thumb. It makes me look like I'm rumbling down the street, looking for a fight. But honestly, I think I do it because I'm used to the feeling of holding someone's wee little hand.

What a lovely post - I wish I'd interviewed my Father like that - but he wasn't a great one for talking about the war. He was in the RAF and I have a similar photo of him with jaunty cap! Bless the veterans!
