On The 7th Day
On the seventh day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
seven swans a-swimming,
six geese a-laying,
five golden rings,
four calling birds,
three French hens,
two turtle doves
and a partridge in a pear tree…
The seven swans a-swimming refer to the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit – wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord.

Oooh, that fear of the Lord does make me quiver. Have a great day.
I never knew this about this song! For many years I taught in a Montessori based catechism called the Catechesis of the Good Shepard. It was the most amazing experience. For Pentecost, we lit seven candles and the children were each to choose which gift they would like to receive. We then lit a match from the original candle to light the child's candle with...the FFFZZZZZ of the match was marvelous...they eyes of the children were wonderful as they chose their gifts. One child asked for all of them. How I wonder where that child is now. Sending you all my love, Deborah
